Free black Lab looking for a good home. Please see attached photo. He was found in a friend's yard on Friday. There have been no responses to posted flyers in the surrounding southside neighborhoods. Visits to the Humane Society and Animal Control left no additional ownership inquiry. He does not… Continue Posted on February 25, 2011 at 5:30pm 3 Comments 1 Like
We already had three dogs, Tasha, Taffy, and Camby. I didn’t think about our family growing by one more furkid, but my parents came home from a shopping trip with a surprise for me. My mom came inside the house and told me to come outside, to the backyard. I came out back and saw this little ball of fluff…

I am sorry you are having seizure problems with your Charlie. That is so difficult to watch them go through! The vet started Fred Astaire (I can't take credit for his name, but I didn't change it, thanks for the compliment!) on phenobarbital and he takes 1 twice a day. When his seizures didn't stop from that, although the med was a very low reading in his blood system, I had done extensive research on the subject and found that many had success with Potassium bromide. So we added a small dose of that to the equation. SUCCESS!! KNOCK ON WOOD, he has been seizure-free since he's been on that with the pheno and it has been 2 years in March. He takes one pill a day of that with the 2 phenos. I asked the vet if we can get him off the pheno, but the vet was not comfortable with that (and the pheno is not too costly at all.) The Potassium Bromide is a little more expensive, but not to extremes. I had tried also the holistic food path to no avail. In fact, the vet thought I was nuts to do that. They actually got worse when I fed them that. I found one site I read for hours on end http://www.canine-epilepsy.net/ and the success stories. The one I benefitted from mostly was http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/ If you read that, don't get discouraged though, they are not all success stories. But there is a lot of discussion on what's been tried, etc. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll be happy to try to help however I can. I wish you the success that I've found!!! (Fred was having one seizure a month, then he would have two or three within a week, which is what concerned the vet to put him on meds. When they are that close together, it's more cause for alarm than just one a month.)

Dry food is, obviously, dry. Over 90% of the moisture has been removed from the food to get it to make a cute, dry kibble that will survive…
