Indeed Daddy was a very special canine in many ways. Not only as a wonderful ambassador for his breed but also as an example of how much love and balance one dog can bring to humans and canines alike. He will be greatly missed but his legacy lives o…

Akitas are the best working dog I have ever seen & the judge just passed him by. Akitas are very loving with children, loyal, friendly, beautiful & very hard working dogs. Sad that the judge didn't know any of this..

The dogs I like never seem to be picked for the group judging though I did like the doberman from the working group. It would be interesting to go back and see what groups have the most BIS awards at Westminster.

Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Westminster was on last night. What a great way to get to check out the different breeds that are out there. Tons of video on line with all the breeds registered by the AKC. I'm more of an obedience fan but then comformation does let us know about the breeding stock available. This goes nicely with The Indy Winter Classic that was over this past weekend.

To watch the different breed videos you can go to the Westminster Kennel Club

Top Ten Dogs

The number one registered dog in the American Kennel Club for 2009 was (drum roll, please).....The Labrador Retriever (again) followed by German Shepherd Dog, Yorkshire Terrier, Golden Retriever, Beagle, Boxer, Bulldog, Dachsund, Poodle and Shi Tzu.

What about our City of Indianapolis? The Top dogs for around here were:
1. Labrador Retriever
2. German Shepherd Dog
3. Yorkshire Terrier
4. Boxer
5. Golden Retriever

Now you can win that bet with your friend over which dog was the most popular.

Having the words mean the same thing each time along with the same results for following them or not following is paramount in working with your dog.

Let's take the command "Come" as an example. If I always want my dog to come when called… Continue

Dogs have senses we can't touch. They are masters of body language and scent and those will change before we even know something is going on. Very subtle differences that dogs will pick up and we won't notice. We are blind compared to dogs.

And yes, dave is an old friend, we go way back, he's on our website as a pet pal, too. I owuld love to come and see your operation. I enjoy and respect all that you have said on this site and FB...love em, but give em boundaries and EXERCISE...in fac,t I might like to do a segment on Working Dogs, we'll talk when you get back from your trip!

What's New Pussycat?

Even though I grew up with dogs in the house, my father's dogs, when I became an 'adult' (of sorts) I always fancied cats. They suited my lifestyle better. For over 30 years in mainstream media broadcasting, I was always traveling. Even when I was in town, 12 hour days
