We've adopted 3 retired Iditarod veterans via the August Fund from Northern Whites Kennel in Chugiak, Alaska. I first brought Pluto & Moon home with me last November. They are beautiful loving dogs that were both 12 yrs. old. They were veterans of numerous Iditarod runs. They instantly became very loved members of our family. Pluto passed away from an undetected splenic cancer in mid April. Needless to say we were devastated. As heartbroken as we were to lose Pluto, we decided to bring his brother Cosmos home. Cosmos arrived at the end of April & has been a pure joy & great companion for Miss Moon. I will send you more details about our retirees & I'll include some photos. I just wanted to give you a brief story of our "fur friends". If only these dogs could talk to us. They have run many miles in their lives & have seen things we can only imagine. It's an honor for us to give them a nice retirement & regardless how hard it is to lose them we are the bridge over the rainbow for them & we enjoy every day we share with them.
