HCAC and HCHS are not the same, the original poster stated this in the first sentence. The issue is with HCAC and their policies and has nothing to do with the HCHS. It's too bad they don't seem to be able to work together at the present time.

Hendricks County Animal Control and Hendricks County Humane Society Please Help

I tried to volunteer at the Hendricks County Animal Control and was shocked to discover they do not allow volunteers. I am now a member of a group that is working to make changes at Animal Control. We would like to have the Humane Society help Animal Control with volunteers, adoptions, etc. Apparently this is a much more difficult task than I originally thought.

A member of the group I joined has created a Facebook page that outlines some of the problems.

We are just looking to increase adopti… Continue

Has anyone heard about this?

I tried to volunteer at the Hendricks County Humane Society, a county run facility located in Danville, Indiana. I was told they do not allow volunteers. I cannot find them on petfinder. I have heard they have an incredibly high amount of animals they euthanize. Apparently there is a group that does volunteer work and fundraisers in Hendricks County but they are not affiliated with the shelter facility. This seems insane to me. Does anyone know if this is true? Is anything being done to help wit… Continue

Establishing a rescue

Hello,

I am currently in the process of establishing an animal rescue group in Hendricks County. This is in the very early stages and I am looking to put together a board of directors. I currently have a business plan and a small group of people interested. There will be an informational meeting on September 2nd at the Wyndham Indianapolis West. If you would like more information or to attend the meeting details can be found at http://www.meetup.com/Cobys-Canine-Rescue/

Thank you,

Renee

Your dogs are a perfect example of how "unwanted" pets can be the most beautiful, sweet, loving ones anyone can find.

Thanks Renee - be sure to join the "group" Our Lil' Bit of Heaven Animal Rescue and Sanctuary. That's where we need the 25 + members to get them to come out to the rescue and do a clip for their TV show.

Greeting people....

A very common issue people have with their dogs is that they jump on people who visit the home. The problem typically starts with their guests--often dog lovers that greet the dogs with all those silly voices, oohs and ahhs. They're anxious to pet and love all over the dogs, and that creates over-excitement. Dogs learn very quickly the association between the door bell and the attention that follows.

That problem can be fixed very easily with proper handling by the owner and the cooper
