Great Dane rescue needs your help...please!

Simply put, Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue needs your help. Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue is a wonderful rescue group that is dedicated to finding homes for abandoned Great Danes. Unfortunately, Great Danes are surrendered too and have been on a record pace this year due to the economy and the movie release of Marmaduke. Not only have we seen an influx of owner surrenders, but we have been hit hard with heart worm positive cases...4 in the last 6 months to be exact. Molly and Brooklyn have already been treated and Brooklyn is now in her forever home. However, we just recently received 2 new cases...Pippy and Daisy...and they will be undergoing treatment in the next few weeks.

Heart worm treatment, depending on the discount a vet offers us, can run anywhere from $500 to almost $800. Couple that cost with vaccinations, spay, worm treatment, etc. and the final bill runs around $1000-$1500 per dog...$4000-$6000 for the care of 4 dogs in one year is a huge hardship on our group. We make every attempt to screen the dogs prior to them coming in, but heart worm positive dogs need rescued and rehomed too!

So, what am I asking of you? I am not necessarily just asking for donations. I am asking for help in general. Of course, we gladly accept donations and sponsorships of dogs but we can use help in other ways as well. We have two fund raisers currently taking place: 1)www.persnicketypup.com is donating 25% of the sales of collars and leashes through the end of April...be sure to mention FFGDR and 2) we are hosting a Gold Canyon Candle fundraiser for the next 2-3 weeks. Fund raisers are an excellent way for us to raise money while you simply shop! Please email us at foreverfriendsgdri@gmail.com to order a candle or more details about the fund raisers.

Do you have an idea for another type of fund raiser? We are willing to try something at least once and feel that any amount of money is appreciated because even $10 helps as it pays for a vaccination!

Do you have merchandise you can donate not only for our sales table, but for a special eBay auction to help raise money for Pippy and Daisy's treatment. We would love to host an online auction that will allow us to reach literally millions of people...however, we require items to auction.

Do you know a veterinarian that might do the treatment cheaper, for free, at cost, etc.? We are open to suggestions and I am willing to drive the dogs to where ever they need to go.

Do you have contacts that you might be able to introduce us to in order to get the word out, to leave donation jars at their place of employment, to schedule additional meet and greets?

Our goal is to help these helpless dogs. We want to see them thrive and have the lives that they, and any dog, deserves. A dog is a responsibility and a commitment, they are not disposable...and until more people realize that, rescues and shelters will continue to be inundated with cases such as Pippy and Daisy's.

I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration. I have also attached a picture of Pippy. She was 40 lbs. when she was found tied up behind her owner's house with no shelter. She is now a whopping 62 lbs. and knows no stranger. She literally does not have one bitter bone in her body and that is what breaks my heart for these dogs. They only want to be loved and give love in return.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Fink

Hi Elizabeth, I'd be happy to discuss how my store's delivery service could potentially help your group earn donations on a monthly basis.  http://healthyhoundsindy.com/pet_supply_delivery_service

My dog licks the furniture constantly. What is this about?

Oh no! It’s very possible the poor guy has a tummyache. Maybe his prepared kibble is giving him some acid reflux? But, it could also be a hiatal hernia, which is a weakness of the diaphragm that allows a bubble from the stomach to come up into the chest cavity.

Humans with this have GERD – gastroesophageal reflux disease -- and are often given antacids, which have been linked to…

Indiana’s Weather For Wednesday

seven-day-indy-scaled
Take a deep breath. We are finished with the 80′s and 90′s for the rest of the week and at least half the weekend. Expect breezy, dry west to northwest winds today and a good dose of sunshine. The mix tomorrow will be mostly clouds, and we’ve got a decent shot at wonderfully wet, widespread [...]
