TWO HENDRICKS COUNTY RESIDENTS TEAM UP TO SAVE DOGS.
Two Hendricks County Animal Lovers have decided that the time has come to begin their lifelong vision of a Dog Shelter and Humane Education Learning Center here in Central Indiana. Renee Harlor and Cherie Fox met three years ago volunteering at a local dog rescue. Over the last three years they have found themselves working toward the same goal of saving at-risk dogs. After running into each other again a few weeks ago at Brownsburg's Arbuckle Park, they decided it was time to make their vision a reality.
Misty Eyes Dog Shelter & Humane Education Learning Center is currently in the early planning stages. The longterm goal is to have a facility and grounds that will house a shelter and learning center. The shelter portion of the facility will be devoted to the care, rehabilitation and re-homing the dogs that have found their way into Misty Eyes care.
The Learning Center will focus on educating the public about how to help in the prevention of animal neglect, abuse and overpopulation. “We want our Learning Center to be a fun and interactive place that people want to visit.” says Harlor. Fox and Harlor both agree that a community that treats animals with compassion is a community that also treats humans with compassion.
Misty Eyes will hold a volunteer meeting on Oct. 6 at the Brownsburg Public Library. The meeting will be held from 6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The duo knows that they can’t do this on their own so they are hoping that other animal lovers and those interested in making a positive difference in their community will join their efforts.
