WHAT A LONG, STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN....

He knows, but he's not telling.

For Nico, the Dogo Argentino 'bully' breed dog, his life...and the fact that he is still even alive, is a miracle.
Although he's not telling tales of his horrendous past, it's easy to see from these pictures, he lived a life of terror and violence. His ears were cut with shears and his teeth were filed. But because he survived and had the battles scars to prove it, it was concluded he was not a 'bait' dog, but rather a 'fighting' dog.

No doubt a winner.
Why? Because he's still alive.

He was found earlier last year in a high kill shelter in LA. A blogger's picture went viral, and his life was about to change dramatically.

Rebecca Stevens from the Humane Society for Hamilton County stepped up to the plate, as she always does, and helped in his physical rehab process. But his bites, scars, bruisis...were nothing compared to his broken soul.

Two ladies, Melissa Garris and Bridget Swan, were looking for a puppy..a dog..they didn't know what dog, but know when they found 'the right one'..they'd know it.
They found Nico. And he found a life of love.
He had no skills as a pet...he is deaf...he had never been walked on a leash..never had a treat...never had a toy...never had a bath!

But through each introduction to the world of 'love' he responded with kisses and tenderness.
Never lashing out..never biting...only absorbing all the love being lavished on his broken body.

When I visited to do the story, Nico came over. I bent down. He kissed me.
How loving can a dog be????

Clearly, Nico is happy now. However the cancer that ravaged his body when the gals adopted him, has returned in his ear. Melissa and Bridget are treating it holistically, and then, if that doesn't work, his ear will be amputated.
But cancer is nothing. Nico has survived to give and accept love and live a life of wonder and fullfillment.
The odds were never in his favor, never..but look at him now.
See Nico and his amazing 'Mommies' on the next Pet Pals TV.

If ever you doubt the power of pure love, you won't after seeing Nico's Journey...

Awesome story of rescue. It is such a wonderful and gratifying gift to give to these helpless animals, many with terrible historys. They never forget that they are born with unconditional love in their hearts and all it takes is love and time to restore it.

A wonderful blog to go with a great upcoming story on PPTV. Nico would put a good "kissing" contest with my GSD. :-)

I'm in love with Nico. He's such a handsome boy. It's sad that he had such a terrible start to life, but such a wonderful story that he is now living with people who love him and know how to show it. All of our lives have been touched by special 4-legged creatures like Nico. His story is reaching out to many more.

I met Nico through a writer who had penned a wonderful story about him. And I have the amazing pleasure of loving on him in person. What a great dog! An adorable soul and the very picture of the triumph of the canine spirit! Patty, I can't wait to see your story on Nico!

Dr. Cathy

My dog licks the furniture constantly. What is this about?

Oh no! It’s very possible the poor guy has a tummyache. Maybe his prepared kibble is giving him some acid reflux? But, it could also be a hiatal hernia, which is a weakness of the diaphragm that allows a bubble from the stomach to come up into the chest cavity.

Humans with this have GERD – gastroesophageal reflux disease -- and are often given antacids, which have been linked to…

Indiana’s Weather For Wednesday

seven-day-indy-scaled
Take a deep breath. We are finished with the 80′s and 90′s for the rest of the week and at least half the weekend. Expect breezy, dry west to northwest winds today and a good dose of sunshine. The mix tomorrow will be mostly clouds, and we’ve got a decent shot at wonderfully wet, widespread [...]
